Training & Facilitation
Practical, values-led sessions grounded in real operating experience.
The approach
I learned to teach and facilitate at the UK’s national outdoor training centre, and have since trained professional cohorts on a security and risk management consultancy course, military leavers, and boards of purpose-driven organisations. The common thread is that everyone in the room has a job to go back to, and the session has to change how they do it.
So the sessions are practical. Real scenarios, usually drawn from environments where the consequences were physical rather than financial. Frameworks people can apply on Monday, with enough space, and enough trust, for the difficult conversations that don’t happen in a normal team meeting.
I’m interested in what people leave with rather than what I got through. That means asking about your context before I design anything, and being willing to change the plan in the room when the group needs something else.
I deliver as an associate for training providers and consultancies, and directly to organisations.
Subject areas
Risk management (ISO 31000 & ISO 31030)
Principles, framework and process, translated into something a delivery team can actually use. Risk identification, assessment, treatment and monitoring. Building a risk culture rather than a risk register. Travel risk management for organisations operating internationally.
Leadership
Leading under pressure. Decision-making with incomplete information. Building high-trust teams. Leading through change and crisis. Coaching-led leadership for people who’ve been promoted into managing former peers.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding for adults and young people in operational, remote and international settings. Recognising and responding to concerns. Building reporting routes people trust. Board-level safeguarding responsibility and assurance.
Crisis planning and incident response
Crisis structures that work when the plan meets reality. Crisis communications. Incident command principles for civilian organisations. Tabletop exercises and scenario work.
Wellbeing and mental health
Organisational wellbeing frameworks. Mental health awareness and first aid principles. Supporting staff after critical incidents. Building cultures where people say something before they break.
Formats
Standard sessions
A defined half-day or full-day on any of the subjects above. Quickest to book, and often the right starting point.
Bespoke design
Built around your organisation, sector, risk profile and the specific problem you’re solving. Includes design time as well as delivery.
Board and leadership facilitation
Away days, strategy sessions, governance workshops, post-incident reviews. Facilitated rather than taught.
Programme design
Where you need a training framework rather than a session. I’ve designed and embedded organisation-wide wellbeing, safeguarding and crisis-communications training frameworks from scratch.
